Former ACC Players Make NBA Rosters
(GREENSBORO) – A total of 58 players from 11 of the 12 current Atlantic Coast Conference schools were listed on the NBA opening day rosters for the 2008-09 season. Duke leads all ACC schools with 14 players listed, while North Carolina is second with 11. Georgia Tech is third with nine and Maryland is fourth with five. A year ago the ACC had 53 players listed on opening day rosters. |
Kasay Signs Extension
(CHARLOTTE) – While he’s no longer the team’s primary kicker on kickoffs, John Kasay’s accuracy on field goals and extra points has been rewarded with a four year contract extension announced by the team Wednesday. Kasay is the last remaining player from the team’s first season in 1995 and is the Panthers leading scorer with 374 points. |

Heels, State Advance In Baseball Playoffs
(CARY) -- UNC is back in Cary and N.C. State is off to Athens, Ga., when the NCAA baseball Super Regionals are held later this week. The Tar Heel, the No. 2 national seed, plays Coastal Carolina in a best-of-three Super Regional beginning Saturday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The Tar Heels (49-12) and Chanticleers (50-12) will play Saturday at noon and Sunday at 1 p.m. If necessary, a third game will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. or 7 p.m., depending on television. |

Canes Made Deal With Samsonov
(RALEIGH) -- Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with right wing Sergei Samsonov on a three-year contract. The deal will pay Samsonov $2.3 million in 2008-09, $2.5 million in 2009-10 and $2.8 million in 2010-11. |
